1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups freshly brewed strong coffee or espresso
- In a medium saucepan, combine the cocoa powder and sugar, pressing out any lumps. Stirring constantly, pour in enough of the milk to moisten the dry mixture, about 1/2 cup; whisk in the coffee and the remaining 2 cups milk.
- Over moderately low heat, cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture steams but does not boil, 8 to 10 minutes. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs or coffee cups and serve.
