Latest project: This winter the pop singer took part in Bell Canada’s “Let’s Talk” campaign to raise awareness about mental-health issues. Her latest album, a recording of her performance with the Niagara Symphony orchestra, hit stores last month.
What she wants for Mother’s Day: “I’d like a massage and brekkie in bed. The massage could even be from the kids! Food can be anything, as long as it’s in bed and I can have a guilt-free morning.”
2. Nelly Furtado
Kid count: One (daughter Nevis, eight)
Latest project: This summer, the musically diverse diva will release and tour with T.S.I., her first English-language album since 2006’s Loose.
What she wants for Mother’s Day: “Anything from the Me to We Artisans line by Free The Children. The jewellery items are all made by mammas in Kenya who use their earnings to help their families and communities.”
3. Martha Wainwright
Kid count: One (son Arcangelo, two)
Latest project: The Montreal-raised folk rocker, whose latest album is due out this summer, is a bona fide family gal. The daughter of musicians Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, she often performs with big brother Rufus, who just released a new disc of his own.
What she wants for Mother’s Day: “More babies!”
