Our Canada Share Your Canada Photo Contest 2023-2024: Official Rules

1. TERM AND ELIGIBILITY TO ENTER

1.1       The Our Canada Share Your Canada Photo Contest, brought to you by Our Canada is offered online at www.ourcanada.ca/ShareYourCanada   and in both Our Canada and More of Our Canada magazines, published by Reader’s Digest Magazines Ltd. (RD) and is open to all Canadian residents, who, at the time of participation, have reached the age of majority according to the laws of the province or territory in which they reside.

1.2       Employees of RD, and respective parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, partners, dealers, advertising sponsors and promotion agencies and their immediate families (parents, children, siblings, spouse) or members of the same household (whether related or not) of such employees/officers/directors are not eligible to enter.

1.3       This contest will end on April 8, 2024, at 23:59:59 (EST).  Entries become the property of RD and will not be returned or acknowledged.

1.4       No purchase is necessary or required to enter and to win.

1.5       This contest is void outside of Canada.

 2. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

2.1       Participants must submit one photo per entry, per day, into their choice among the following categories—Everyday People, The Great Outdoors or Creatures, Large and Small—and provide a brief description of 250 words or less (describing subject matter or theme of photo, where & when was it taken, etc.). Digital photo requirements: a jpeg file with a resolution of not less than 300 dpi at a minimum size of 5 x 7 inches (1500 pixels x 2100 pixels, or greater). Jpeg file must not exceed 20 MB. Photos not meeting these requirements may be excluded from the contest. To enter a photo print, see 2.3.2 below.

2.2       Submissions should not include copyright-protected material by third parties unless permission has been granted.

2.3       How to Enter:

2.3.1    Our Canada Website

Participants entering online at www.ourcanada.ca/ShareYourCanada  may upload their photos until April 8, 2024, at 23:59:59 (EST) close date.

2.3.2    Mail

Participants entering by mail may send their photos, which must be received by the close date of April 8, 2024, at 23:59:59 (EST) to Our Canada Share Your Canada Photo Contest, PO Box 975 Stn Main, Markham, ON L3P 0K7.  Entries sent to any other location than this PO Box, may not be considered.

2.4       Receipt of entries will not be acknowledged.

3. JUDGING AND PRIZE AWARDING

3.1.       On April 30, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. (EDT), in Montreal, three (3) winning photos will be selected from among all entries received by an internal panel of judges and awarded one (1) of three (3) prizes as follows:

1st prize:         $500.00
2nd prize:        $300.00
3rd prize:         $200.00

Winning photos will be featured in the June/July 2024 of Our Canada magazine.

The total award value for this contest is $1,000.00

Judging will be based on criteria such as photo composition, originality and how well the submission reflects the selected contest category and Canadian themes and values. Decisions of RD judges are final.

3.2       The prizes are non-transferable and must be accepted as awarded.  The prizes are guaranteed to be awarded. By entering the contest, entrants agree to abide by these rules, and the decisions of RD are final on all matters regarding this contest.  The winners will be notified by mail, shortly after they have been identified as winning entries.  The winners must sign a declaration and claim form in order to claim their prize. If a prize is unclaimed the next eligible person will qualify to win it. The winners will receive their prize approximately 30 days from the date the claim form is returned to RD.

4. CONDITIONS

By entering, the entrants warrant and represent the following with respect to their submission: (a) entrant is the sole and exclusive owner of the submission and its copyright; (b) photo was taken solely by the entrant; (c) the submission will not infringe on any rights of any third parties; and (d) any third parties appearing in the submission have given their consent to having their photo be entered into the contest.

By participating, entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless RD, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, and sponsors, agents and their employees, officers, directors, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this contest or any contest related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.

By submitting an entry, entrants acknowledge and agree that all submissions may be reproduced and published (without notice or compensation) in Our Canada, More of Our Canada magazines, any electronic media and any printed material such as books, catalogues published by RD, and affiliates, as well that an agreement has been secured from a third-party copyright holder of the submission.

Submissions may be cut, reformatted, rearranged, combined with other materials and/or otherwise modified. Participation in the contest and acceptance of prize constitute the winner’s permission (or that of the copyright holder) for RD to use their names, photographs, biographical information, and/or any statements made by each winner regarding the contest without notice or additional compensation.

RD reserves the right to refuse submissions deemed inappropriate or offensive in any way.

5. RIGHT TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST

If for any reason RD is not able to run the contest as planned, due to infection by computer virus, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of RD that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this contest, RD reserves the right to terminate or suspend the Contest with the approval of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux.

Furthermore, RD can disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process.

6. LEGAL

This contest complies with all Canadian laws.  In Québec, the required duties have been paid.  Quebec residents may submit any litigation respecting the conduct or organizing of a publicity contest to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux du Québec for a ruling.  Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
