LETTER OF THE MONTH CONTEST (OCTOBER 2018) OFFICIAL RULES

1. HOW TO ENTER

1.1 This contest is separate and completely independent from any other contests or sweepstakes held by The Reader’s Digest Association (Canada) ULC (hereinafter RD).

1.2 All entries must be submitted by the close date of November 5, 2018, 23:59:59 (EST). Entries become the property of the RD and will not be returned or acknowledged.

1.3 One (1) entry per person per day will be accepted.

1.4 Contestants must send in their letter(s) by email to: [email protected] or to [email protected] . Each letter must not be exceeding 400 words. Letters exceeding this limit could be eliminated. The content of the letter could relate to current or past stories found in the Reader’s Digest magazine or it could relate to your relationship to the Reader’s Digest magazine.

1.5 We will be publishing 3 to 4 letters of which one of them will have been judged as our featured winning letter. We could however include in the running of a future issue of the magazine, any of the entries sent to us during this contest period, to be either published as a regular letter or published as the winning featured letter.

2. ELIGIBILITY

2.1 This contest is open to Canadian residents who, at the time of entry, have reached the age of majority according to the law of the province or territory in which they reside. In order to be eligible to be entered into this contest, participants must respect all conditions set forth in these rules and online. The following are excluded from entering: employees of RD, their immediate family, or persons working for any company involved in any phase of contest administration and persons with whom they are domiciled.

2.2 This contest is void outside of Canada.

3. PRIZES AND AWARDING

On November 9, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. EST, at the office of Reader’s Digest in Montreal, three to four letters will be chosen to be published in our magazine. One (1) of the letters will be chosen to be featured as our winner of this contest and will be awarded a fifty dollar ($50.00) cheque.

This prize is guaranteed to be awarded and must be accepted as awarded. The decisions of RD and the independent judges are final on all matters regarding this contest. The qualifying winner will be notified by email, shortly after the contest close date. The winner must sign a claim form. Approximately 30 days after the date the claim form is received by RD, the winner will receive the prize at his/her home. RD reserves the right to give away this prize if unclaimed to a recognized Canadian charitable organization.

4. JUDGING

Judging will commence on November 6, 2018 and terminate on November 9, 2018 at 2:00pm EST. Each entry will be judged by a panel of Editors whose decision will be final. The winner will be determined on the basis of literary merit, originality and creativity.
The winner’s name will be available online at rd.ca or upon request to anyone who sends a stamped, self-addressed envelope to ‘Letter of the Month Aug 2018’, c/o Reader’s Digest, Administrator, Sweepstakes and Contests, 5101 Buchan Street, Montreal QC H4P 1S4.

5. CONDITIONS

RD, its officers, employees and agents or representatives, their immediate family and persons with whom they are domiciled, are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, unreadable or misdirected entries, which will be disqualified. Proof of submission will not be deemed to appear as proof of receipt. All entries become the sole property of RD and will not be acknowledged or returned. In the event an insufficient number of entries are received, RD reserves the right to cancel the contest and shall be under no obligation to award the prize. Entries not satisfying these Official Rules will be automatically disqualified. All entrants must provide a valid mailing address.

Entrants who do not comply with these Official Rules or attempt to interfere with this contest in any way shall be disqualified.

RD, its officers, employees and agents or representatives, their immediate family and persons with whom they are domiciled, will not assume any responsibility or liability for damages (including legal fees), losses or injury resulting from acceptance or use of the prize.

6. GOVERNING CONDITIONS

6.2 By entering this contest, entrants agree to abide by all terms of these Official Rules.
