4 Ways to Grow Edible Plants Indoors
Try these simple methods for growing herbs, vegetables and sprouts indoors, and make the smallest windowsill feel like the largest outdoor garden.
Don’t have a garden, but still want to grow your own edibles? These simple, wallet-friendly ideas can turn your balcony or windowsill into a prime growing spot and keep you “in the green” year-round.
2. Hang Some Vegetables
Take sturdy reusable plastic shopping bags, poke a few holes in them for drainage and some small slits in the sides for aeration, and fill with organic potting mix. Plant tomato, pepper or even endive plants in the bags, then hang them in a sunny spot, preferably near a window. Water often to keep the soil nice and moist – over a sink in case of dripping.
3. Can Some Greens
Turn empty food cans into a herb garden. Wash the cans and paint them in pretty colours. Fill them with soil and use them to grow a selection of sweet-smelling herbs on a sunny windowsill.
