5 Simple Ways to Cope if the News is Making You Anxious

Demoralizing, gloomy, alarming, terrifying—choose just about any word that means “downright bad” and it will describe the current news cycle. And with all of us consuming our news through multiple avenues, from traditional sources like TV, newspapers and websites to social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook an Instagram, it can seem like there’s no way to escape. But taking a break from doomscrolling—and learning methods for coping with anxiety—is important for mental health. These tips may help your brain get the rest it needs.

1. Turn off news notifications and set time limits

Ask yourself if you really need minute-by-minute updates on every world event and if constantly being connected actually benefits you. The answer is probably “no.” For the sake of your mental health, turn off push notifications that bombard your phone and plan news-free times throughout the day. Whatever you do, avoid reading or watching the news before you go to sleep.

2. Try CBD for anxiety

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a compound found in cannabis that has been used for pain management, epileptic seizures and sleep. 4. Prioritize sleep
