250 mL (1 cup) light brown sugar
175 mL (2/3 cup) quick-cooking rolled oats
175 mL (2/3 cup) all-purpose flour
5 mL (1 tsp) ground cinnamon
5 mL (1 tsp) ground nutmeg
75 mL (1/3 cup) butter or margarine, softened
5 California apples, peeled, cored and sliced
Preheat oven to 375ºF (190ºC). In small bowl, mix sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg together. With fork or pastry blender, cut in butter or margarine until crumbly. Slice apples into buttered 9 x 9 x 2 (23 cm square) glass pan. Sprinkle crumb mixture evenly on top. Bake for 35 minutes at 375ºF (190ºC) or until apples are tender.
Makes 8 servings.
