What You Need to Know About the New Chevrolet Camaro
Sports car excitement for daily driving: What you need to know about the new 2016 Chevy Camaro.
Introducing the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
The Chevy Camaro has been an icon of the sports car category for decades now, and over the past few years GM has been investing in some significant upgrades to the five-year segment leader. Many of those refinements are now seeing the light of day as the 2016 version rolls off the assembly lines and into dealer showrooms. Here are five new and noteworthy new features of the 2016 Chevy Camaro.
1. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is more nimble.
The newest version of the iconic Chevrolet Camaro has been redesigned to be more responsive in all kinds of driving conditions. Test drivers have reported that the 2016 Camaro is faster in the corners and that acceleration is better than ever before. Those drivers also report that the braking is much more powerful, making emergency manoeuvres and everyday driving safer-and more fun.
2. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has shed some weight.
GM employed a number of techniques, including computer-aided engineering, to design a vehicle that is both lighter in weight (its mass has been reduced by more than 60 kilograms) and more rigid on the road. To help achieve that lightweight architecture, many key car parts were made specifically for the vehicle. In fact, some 70% of the components in the new Camaro are unique to that vehicle and used nowhere else in the GM lineup.
3. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is more comfortable.
High-performance sports cars are not renowned for comfort, but Chevy has worked hard to make this ride a bit smoother. The active suspension built into the 2016 Camaro monitors road conditions and driving status more than 1,000 times each second. The vehicle then uses those results to optimize comfort and control for drivers and passengers.
4. The 2016 Chevy Camaro is more efficient.
The 2016 version of the Chevy Camaro should be the most efficient ever. Its new 2.0-litre turbocharged engine has been certified at some 275 horsepower, and it is capable of making 295 lb-ft of torque. Even so, the fuel economy of the new Camaro is expected to be 7.8L/100km on the highway.
Don’t get us wrong-the Camaro will never be mistaken for an ultra-green econobox, but it’s nice to see GM making strides toward fuel efficiency in the latest version of its iconic sports car.
5. The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has an all-new drive mode selector.
The 2016 Camaro features an all-new drive mode selector, allowing drivers to choose the way their vehicle behaves and handles, based on various types of driving conditions. Drivers can tweak up to eight different attributes on their vehicles, including special modes for snow and ice, sport and touring.
