A Day at the Races

In the August-September issue of Our Canada, we launched a new magazine department called Celebrations, the aim of which is to shine a spotlight on local festivals and festivities that bring community members together in the spirit of fun, interaction and goodwill. The inspiration for this new department came in the form of a story submission from Mr. Mike Keindel of Devon, Alta. Mike informed us that his tightly knit community has been holding a multi-day celebration every summer for the past 49 years. Aptly named Devon Days, the event transforms the heart of town into a virtual funhouse of entertainment, food and activities for all ages. This summer’s edition included the first-ever running of the Devon Days Outhouse Race. As soon as we saw the race photos, we were hooked on Devon’s “joie de vivre” and we just had to get Mike’s submission into the August-September issue. If you hurry, you can still pick up a copy at larger magazine shops, newsstands and bookstores. In the meantime, have a look at these photos of some of the teams that were competing in the big race.
