The kind of apple tree you pick for your yard will depend on the climate where you live.
Early autumn is a good time to plant an apple tree in your yard. With such a large variety of apples out there, it can be a little hard to figure out which one suits your fancy most. Read on to get a better idea of what's out there.
Tips to Keep in Mind
Pollination group. No apple tree is fully self-fertile; so more than one variety should be grown. Ideally, choose trees from within the same pollination group, although pollination will usually occur between varieties in adjoining groups.
Picking time. The days from bloom to picking varies according to season and locality. All the apples on a tree do not ripen at the same time; and, for the early- and mid-season varieties, more than one picking is needed.
