Thank You Dannette - it is so nice to read something positive about this wonderful city. We raised our children there and left reluctently after 20 years. A big part of my heart, my son, still lives there as do many friends.
I loved this article! Thanks to Dannette Scott for submitting such a wonderful story. We are more than just oil sands and we have so much to be proud of. I feel very fortunate to work for a company such as Suncor Energy (one of the oil sands majors) as they have seconded me to work on a project called Social Prosperity Wood Buffalo. Its all about support Fort McMurray to be a great place to live by building capacity in our wonderful nonprofit sector. See http://woodbuffalo.uwaterloo.ca/index.html for more information.
Awesome article Dannette it was great to read an article that puts Fort McMurray in the lime light on the good side of what it really is and means to the people that live here and have made it our home, I have been here for 26 years and love it with all it hass to offer.
Let's hope the TV stations pick this up Nationally! It's pretty special; thanks Dannette for putting in the time to do this! Keep up writing and photographing Fort McMurray!
you would not think it was so nice in fort mcmurry in 1962 no paved road no snowplows, no highway to edmonton, no water and sewer. -56 deg below and the furnace oil jellied in you storage tank outside your home. frozen water lines to our home welders were used to thaw the lines. better wear a siberian parka when went out. at times we rented a hotel room for a week to stay warm. spring franklin ave was a swamp car would sink into 2-3 feet of mud. no sidewalks. Its amazing what money will do for a community. Enjoy your winter
The photos were amazing, thank you so much I hear so much of the place.
I am so pleased to see a positive story about Fort McMurray. Thank you Dannette, it is so refreshing to see so much positive come from you and your enthusiasm is contagious to us readers. Makes me proud to say that I am from Fort McMurray and I can assure you that I will be carrying this article with me to show the naysayers and Negative Nelly’s the "TRUTH" about our fair city. Thank you again Dannette.
Love the photos, i myself have a bunch of beautiful pics that i took- I live in an acreage in fort mac for 6 yrs now...and All seasons is gorgeous..i should post my pics too. Can i?
Dannette, thank you for the wonderful article. I have hopes of moving to Fort McMurray in the next couple of months as my husband is there right now. Asking some of the locals on Message Boards and such, well it was disheartening to say the least. Thank you for showing me another side opposite the negativity. I always knew that you create your own destiny and I now am excited and anxious to get to Fort McMurray and make that my home. Beautiful countryside, incredible photos, thank you!
