What Kind of Business Should I Start?

What kinds of businesses do mompreneurs start? Well every kind really, and what you choose should depend on your expertise, experience and interests. Here are some common categories of businesses moms gravitate towards:

Products and services for children or their mothers

Children’s clothes, baby blankets, specialty foods (organic, allergy-free), gift baskets, home tutoring, baby sign language, babysitting or pet sitting, birthday party entertainer or party services, music lessons, personalized jewelry, labels for children’s clothes and possessions, wall art for kids’ rooms, scrapbooks.

Support services for other businesses

Virtual assistant, kid concierge, cleaning, bookkeeping, accounting, marketing, writing/editing, graphic design, web/IT services, event planning, professional organizing.

Consulting

Life coaching, business strategy, infopreneurs (sells information in the form of books, teleconferences, seminars, reports), resume services.

Selling products for other companies

Opportunities exist to sell a whole variety of products, including toys, cookware, health, beauty and scrapbook supplies. Conduct thorough research before signing on to make sure you’re working for a reputable company and that you understand the level of investment and commitment required. You may be expected to recruit others into the business as well as sell the products.
