Reverse-Stencil Ornament

With this stenciling method, it takes just minutes to create a gorgeous keepsake. Make extra balls to give as gifts.

What you will need:

3-inch clear glass ball ornament

Plastic drinking straw

Masking tape

Spray glass cleaner

Florist’s foam brick

1/4-inch-wide rubber bands in assorted sizes

1/2-inch-wide stiff paintbrush

White craft glue

Gold glitter

Sheet of paper

Tweezers

Scissors

STEP 1:

Remove ornament cap from ball. Insert straw into opening, then wrap masking tape around straw and neck of ball. Clean ball with glass cleaner. To free both hands during work, insert straw “handle” into foam brick as needed.

STEP 2:

Select rubber band slightly smaller than ball diameter. Stretch rubber band around circumference of ball, then release band gently. Add two additional rubber bands parallel to first band, adjusting spacing as necessary. Brush glue over entire surface of ball, covering rubber bands (see illustration A).

STEP 3:

Pour glitter onto paper. Holding straw handle, roll ball in glitter, until all surfaces are coated (illustration B). Place handle in foam brick. Let ball dry 1 hour.

STEP 4:

Lift rubber bands with tweezers, clip with scissors, and pull off using tweezers (illustration C). Remove tape. Replace ornament cap.
