5-Star Décor on a Two-Star Budget

You don’t need a lot of money to make your home look like a million bucks. Find out how
you can create luxury spaces for a lot less

One of the biggest misconceptions about interior decorating is that you have to break the bank to make a room look spectacular.

Not so, says Andy Rioux, a Montreal-based interior decorator who has built a successful career out of creating lavish, rich interiors on virtually any budget.

The trick, he says, is to have vision, an ability to think out-of-the-box, and a willingness to be flexible with your ultimate design goals. Of course, knowing how to trick the eye with a few insider tips can help, too.

Here are five key points Rioux says everyone should keep in mind when giving a room a makeover.

Couldn't agree more! Creativity is the key and thanks for the images, very inspiring! It's amazing how lighting and accent items can really make a difference. You'll also be amazed on what you can find online (Ebay, Kijiji, Craigslist). As an example, I saw a set of 6 dark brown leather chairs retailing for $925 (tx incl) at a retail store. I found the exact same ones in mint condition on Kijiji for $400 while selling my old ones for $200 through the site! So a net cost of only $200 to upgrade my chairs as opposed to paying $925 retail and disposing the old ones!

Loved this article and I agree a 100 percent!! These are great tips, thank you so much!

Awesome. Love the before and afters. Question: What color is the wood floor on the first image?
