Interesting about the memory thing.....at 82, I don't think I'm doing
too badly.....I can carry on a conversation well, I listen well, I read alot,
I do crosswords everyday, I put in a full day's work in the garden and home, as I live on an acerage, so there is lots to do and keep my mind
busy. I have lots of hobbies, go out on occasion, drive on my own for
appointments......not bad for 82, don't you think?????
I think, the fact, that I have been physically and mentally active all my life has helped my memory substantially. While my primary language is English, I do know a smattering of French, Hebrew, and a few other languages. I have a voracious appetite for Science and Technology News as well as other things. I have practiced martial arts for many years. Repeating something over and over again (otherwise called practice) helps the learning process. Learing and Practice are steps towards training my memory and keeping it active, in my opinion .
I found some of those questions problematic. For example, I've always had problems remembering people's names when introduced to them for the first time. I almost always remember people's faces; names, well that's another story. Shopping lists when I go to the store - that's to make sure I buy only what I need, rather than finding myself buying something from the showy displays; that's not a memory problem, that's just good use of my money. Perhaps these questions should be eliminated from this survey???
I think a lot of your questions have alternative explanations (besides memory) for more negative answers. Also, a 4- or 5-point scale would be more accurate. There were many questions where 'never' wouldn't have been an honest answer, but 'sometimes' is too often. At least one more option (like 'seldom' or 'rarely') would be useful. Good fun all the same.
The test was interesting - I had average.Wish it had been graded by age - I am 80 - so would the result be the same for a 20 yr. old ????
Better health practice is always a most valuable investment in life.
at 50 i didn't do so well on this test, however it does not make allowance for life style, i do shift work (rotational), need my lists to remember details and like one other person here i've always had problems remembering names, faces no problems names not so much
I thinkyour questionaire was very well thought out. One that was easy to answer, with appropriate questions.
I'm turning 54 next week and after I took this test I feel a lot better. I thought all the medications I am on were having an adverse effect on my memory but I got an average score. I'm average and I'll take that as a good sign of aging.
Being 15 i feel i could have probably done a lot better on this quiz. I had often for pretty much every question, and i didn't exaggerate. I am constantly forgetting stuff, i forget what i'm talking about in the middle of a sentence, why i just walked into a room, where i put my glasses when they're on my face etc.
One week after my 49th bday last year, I had a massive heart attack while at work and my poor emotionally unstable employee found me dead in a closet corner where i had fell. I was gone for aprox. 20 mins and for unexplained reasons 6 paramedics showed up and brought me back to life. I thank God every day. I went through 2 months in the hospital before being strong enough to have by passes, From what I am told, for the first month, I was awake but did not know my daughter and husband nor my son and his wife.To this day, my memory is terrible if compared to "normal people". I have been working very hard in finding ways for me to remember my past and am quite amazed at some results. In this survey, my score was terrible but to me, that is the least of my problems. I was able to be here sitting down and taking the survey.... I am greatful that I could read it and undertand it. If anyone has any suggestions in regards to other good memory surveys please feel free to send it to me. One thing for sure.... rain or shine, every day is a special and beautiful day no matter what I will remember about it tomorrow.
Lou that is an amazing story. It clearly was not your time to leave your loved ones yet. I was truly touched by your words. Keep fighting and getting stronger every day!.
take care of yourself and thank you for sharing that beautiful story :)
Good for you. Keep up your routine and life will be good to the end.
Awesome, way to go. For 82 your doing great. katie
I'm 30 years younger than you, and forget where I'm going so have to drive around until I remember :P My score on that test mustn't have been very good since most of my answers were 'often'. Not great for 52 and relatively healthy... I'd say you're blessed :)
