Transparent Herb Soaps

You can make several batches of these glycerine jewels in just one afternoon. If you don’t want to bother buying traditional soap molds, you can use muffin tins, candy molds, even ice cube trays. And if you don’t want to bother buying commercial glycerine (available at craft stores), you can use colored glycerine soap bars sold at pharmacies.

Transparent Herb Soaps

What you will need:

Soap molds

Vegetable oil

Unscented, uncolored glycerine block or colored glycerine soap bars

Essential oils, for scent, if desired

Bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, or other herbs

Step 1:

Grease molds with oil. Heat the glycerine in the top of a double boiler over low flame until it melts.

Step 2:

Stir in a few drops of essential oil, if desired.

Step 3:

Using half the glycerine, pour into molds until half-full. Leave to set.

Step 4:

Place a bay leaf or another herb on top of the first layer of soap.

Step 5:

Reheat remaining soap in double boiler, stirring to prevent a skin from forming. Fill molds to top. Leave to set completely before removing the soap from mold.
