2. Conquerall Bank, NS is a place and it rocks

2. Conquerall Bank, NS is a place and it rocks

Nothing says my town beats your town-and will continue to do so in the future-like “Conquerall Bank.” To top it off, this small town was involved in the Chesapeake Affair during the American Civil War. Factual history aside, is there anything more intriguing (in a British, gentlemanly sort of way) than a Chesapeake Affair?

Well hello there, famous writer. Win in one of our seven cateogories-or the grand prize itself-and you could see your words and name in an upcoming issue of our Reader’s Digest Canada magazine. (Which, thankfully, is almost pocket-sized, so you can bring it around and show everyone.)

6. (Almost) anything goes-including

6. (Almost) anything goes-including “mutiny, murder, and madness”

So it’s not an R-rated contest, and you probably shoudn’t swear either. Other than that, we’ll take almost any entry that makes a case for your town-fact or fiction. Like the couple who saved the day after they saw a pair of teens wielding a machete. (That was fact.) Or the sea-faring kitty that was found with a “confession bound to her neck [that] told a tale of mutiny, murder and madness. And buried treasure.” (Fiction.)

7. You get to brag even before you win

7. You get to brag even before you win

Hey, you don’t really need to win the contest to indulge in a good boast about your town. Think you attend the hippest events, drink at the coolest bars, and hang out with the greatest people? Are the sunsets in your city the nicest you’ve ever seen? Does your town lack money, but make up for it in heart? Nobody likes a braggart. Except us. This is the place and the time.

What makes your town so special?

8. You're competing against dinosaurs, cats, and talking paintbrushes.

8. You’re competing against dinosaurs, cats, and talking paintbrushes.

Come on, admit it: you’ve been dying to take on the “Dinosaur Capital of the World.” (That’s Drumheller, AB-unless of course you think it’s not, which is all the more reason to enter.) You’ll also go head to head with Jas’Mine (a black and white pirate’s cat from Comox, BC,) and Scarlett Orange (a surprisingly eloquent tube of orange paint that is just plain sick of creating beautiful sunsets.)

9. You're a poet and you don't know it

9. You’re a poet and you don’t know it

Or maybe you do know it. Either way, there’s no better place to reveal your true rhyming chops.

Need inspiration? Just take a few lines from our most recent poem submission:
Sudbury was once a just a polluted mining town
Bare rocks, slag piles and smelters all around
Bleak landscape anywhere the eye would dwell
Sulfur didn’t promote breathing well.

10. If one woman can enter seven times, you can enter at least once

Let’s hear it for Comox, BC. If it’s not the most interesting Canadian town, it’s definitely the one with the most dedicated resident. Denise Sevier-Fries has already submitted seven unique full-length entries. We think that’s great. But rest assured, you only need to enter once for a chance to win the $5,000 grand prize.

11. For you, it’s free
