Reporting to: Director, Digital Media

Position summary:

Responsibilities:

Design layouts and graphics consistent with the site and overall brand, reflecting best practices in user knowledge and navigation. Design new interactive features, advertising and promotional campaigns. Responsible for constantly improving site designs in conjunction with best web practices and magazine development.


Education / Experience:

    • Bachelor degree or equivalent
    • 5-7 years of experience in media websites design.
    • Portfolio demonstrating excellent creative skills and current technical experience.
    • Strong knowledge of usability, navigation, optimization techniques and web 2.0.
    • Strong working knowledge in web-based content management systems (knowledge of Drupal would be an asset).


Qualities / Aptitudes:

    • Demonstrated interest in healthy lifestyle content.
    • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
    • Competency in Dreamweaver and Flash.
    • Knowledge in HTML, PHP, CSS and XML.
    • Excellent attention to detail and proven organizational skills.
    • Self-motivated, self-starter able to set and meet tight deadlines, work on multiple projects concurrently.
    • Must be a team player and able to adapt to change quickly.
    • Able to pick up new skills quickly.
    • Interest and skills in illustration is an asset.
    • Bilingual (French and English).

Web Editor, readersdigest.ca
Reporting to:

Position summary:

Location: Montréal, QC

 

Reader’s Digest Canada is looking for a dynamic, experienced Web Editor with strong writing, editing, organizational and project leadership skills to join our digital editorial team, which includes the web team for readersdigest.ca, selection.ca, ourcanada.ca and besthealthmag.ca. The Web Editor will develop new and engaging daily lifestyle content for readersdigest.ca, lead the production of weekly e-newsletters, and inspire the editorial and e-commerce teams to think beyond print and leverage all web possibilities. The Web Editor will be responsible for developing original content that is in keeping with the spirit, voice and brand of Reader’s Digest. This person will specifically:

 

  • Create and publish interactive content, using a content management system (CMS)
  • Execute the editorial vision for the website
  • Work closely with our Sales force to conceive, develop and execute winning online content sponsorship programs
  • Commission and create original content that generates traffic, as well as identify and adapt suitable content from Reader’s Digest properties and partners
  • Work with the editors, assigning and editing stories as well as working with freelance writers
  • Generate creative online content ideas to ensure strong web visibility in the print magazine
  • Source and resize images, upload stories to the content management system; create slide shows
  • Edit, produce and write content for weekly e-newsletters; manage forums
  • Generate ideas for special features, create lineups and assign and edit content
  • Maintain an editorial calendar, including the schedule for content and managing home page updates
  • Manage copy editing and fact-checking processes to high standards
  • Write select content (i.e. drives to web) for Reader’s Digest magazine and identify UGC web content that would be suitable for publication in the magazine
  • Liaise with freelancers, magazine staff and web production staff
  • Encourage interactivity and cross-promotion of content across our network of sites

 

Education & Experience:

 

  • A post-secondary degree in journalism or communications (or equivalent)
  • Two or more years of experience in web content production, preferably in a media environment
  • Solid understanding of the online medium and a passion for social media
  • Experience coding HTML to format paragraph text and other online copy
  • Experience optimizing images in Photoshop for use on the web
  • Experience uploading content to a website using a content management system (CMS)

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as part of a team, while managing multiple projects and priorities
