Associate Web Editor, Best Health (1 year mandate)
Reporting to: Senior Web Editor

Position summary:

Reader’s Digest Canada is looking for a dynamic, web-savvy, health content expert to join the online editorial team of Best Health, Canada’s newest healthy lifestyle magazine for women. The Associate Web Editor will be responsible for working with the Web Editor to develop fresh and engaging daily health and lifestyle content that is in keeping with the spirit, voice and brand of Best Health, drives repeat visits and generates online revenues. The incumbent will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Write and edit original content
  • Produce original and repurposed content, using a content management system
  • Contribute to and help maintain a lively daily group blog
  • Identify and manipulate suitable art to accompany content
  • Contribute to and maintain an editorial calendar, including planning story ideas, scheduling content and managing home page updates
  • Ensure site content meets high copy-editing and fact-checking standards
  • Help grow the Best Health community by engaging readers through site comments, forums, newsletters and external social media such as Twitter and Facebook

     

 

Requirements:

 

  • Post-secondary degree in journalism, communications or other relevant subject area (or equivalent)
  • 2 or more years experience in health and lifestyle content management
  • Strong and efficient web writing skills, especially in the areas of health, fitness and nutrition
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing multimedia content
  • Strong grasp of and interest in women’s health news and issues
  • Solid understanding of the online medium
  • Familiar in working with a content management system
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Comfortable working in a Mac environment

 

Qualities/Aptitudes:

 

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as part of a team, while managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong editorial judgment
  • Creative thinker, problem-solver
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Bilingualism is an asset

Marketing Assistant (temporary position, approximate duration of 6 months)
Reporting to: Senior Marketing Campaign Leader

Position summary:

Responsibilities:

 

Reader’s Digest Canada is looking for an assistant for its Marketing department. This person will support team members across all product lines in successfully executing direct marketing campaigns. The tasks assigned to this person will vary as he or she will work with different teams but will include entering information into cost sheets, tracking inventory, creating and updating Word and Excel documents, P&L preparation for a given product line, filing promotion samples, and other tasks as assigned.

 

Education, experience and qualifications:

 

  • College diploma in business, administration, or marketing (or equivalent)
  • Two or more years of experience marketing; direct marketing experience is an asset
  • Intermediate level skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Communication skills in English and in French (spoken and written)
  •  

 

Qualities & Aptitudes:

 

  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Able to adapt to different situations and take direction from different team members
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
